Brutal

Brutal (Marco Bonafè, b. 1981) is an Italian artist and art director who has been active in the contemporary art scene for 25 years. Originally a traditional artist, he transitioned to digital art in 2021, embracing it as a new medium. This year, Brutal is presenting his latest project, ‘Abstract Evolution’, a series of abstract artworks that emulate the outputs of generative art. His creative process begins with just a mouse and Photoshop and continues with the use of specialised software to convert each artwork into ASCII encoding, adding a unique conceptual layer.

‘Abstract Evolution’ blends the aesthetics of generative art with a fully handmade approach. The collection’s release will follow a distinctive format, as the works will be published on Manifold in numerical order but without a set schedule. ‘Abstract Evolution’ does not have a predetermined number of pieces; instead, it will evolve organically, reaching its final form between March and December 2025. Brutal aims for his creations to find genuinely engaged collectors who acquire them at the moment they appear. Additionally, some works from the collection will be donated to museums and charities.
