Dajana Krüger

Dajana Krüger is a German-based new media artist. In her practice, she aims to connect the real world, analogue elements and the digital without losing the human context. Originally a photographer, she gradually moved away from capturing single moments and began developing new ways of portraying people through movement, repetition, and shifting perspectives. At the centre of her practice is her 360° spinning moving imagery technique, through which she creates what she calls “real holograms” of people and objects. By allowing the performer to hold a sculptural pose and express emotion, rather than simply rotate, she transforms the photographic portrait into an unfolding experience. This gives the viewer time to encounter a subject from multiple angles, instead of simply observing a single image. Her work is rooted in a process of co-creation between the artist, the performer, and the public. Her process always begins with analogue elements, which she uses as a foundation before finding the digital medium and language that best express the work. For Dajana Krüger, technology is not separate from the physical world but a way of exploring it without losing its human context.
The human body and its capacity to communicate are central to her practice. Through expression, movement, sculptural poses, and physical form, the artist explores the space between direct communication and interpretation, leaving room for the viewer to experience and construct meaning themselves. Her work also questions our increasingly digital lives and what might be lost as technology becomes more deeply embedded in how we communicate and perceive reality. This tension is particularly evident in “Spinning Communion”, an ongoing installation that began during the COVID-19 pandemic and brings together continuously collected portraits of different people. The work expanded into an NFT collection, allowing individual images to be collected while remaining part of the larger installation, a complete “Gesamtkunstwerk”. For Dajana Krüger, the communal nature of collecting mirrors the work itself: a growing artwork created through the presence and participation of many people. Recently presented on the giant screens of Times Square as part of GIANT SIGNALS, “Spinning Communion” brought this intimate exploration of human connection into one of the world's busiest public spaces. Her current projects are becoming increasingly performative, as she continues to explore the relationship between technology, performance, video, and the human experience.
